Hairstyles for Ladies Over 50

Hairstyles for Ladies Over 50

I’m not really sure what it is about 50, but women seem more inclined to run away and not embrace their age. The big 5-0 is a milestone, sure, but it’s not a deathbed. Be proud; you’re gorgeous. You’ve lived through five decades, including the 80’s, and you’re still alive to tell the tale. And if you just had a flashback of neon nail colors, legwarmers, lace gloves and wearing cheap, gaudy jewelry, I apologize.
Ladies in Their 50's Hair Idea

Celebrate your years by getting a new hairstyle. If you’re like my mother, you’re probably thinking “I’m every woman,” and I completely respect that. But come on. There has to be something you haven’t tried yet: a color, a crop, highlights, streaks. Or au natural maybe?
You can put down that brick you were getting ready to hurl at me. I know what you’re thinking. “No way am I revealing my real hair color.” Why not? You’re not old, you’re experienced. Show it off. I knew a woman once who had stark white hair from the time she was 10, but no one ever knew until she was 50 because she always colored it. But her real color was absolutely stunning on her, and to this day, I still want my hair to be that white when I get her age.

But if you’re not comfortable with that, do something else. Short hair actually looks much more sophisticated on older women, even when it’s edgy. I can’t tell you how much other women envy that messy look that crazy, messy, bed head look that only older women seem to be able to pull off. Perhaps it’s because it’s so fine, and it’s already gone through its rebellious stage, so it’s at a point where it’ll actually do what you tell it to – unlike your husband. Try it and see.

The point of a hairstyle at this point in your life is not to hide who you are. It’s to celebrate who you are. And, believe it or not, you’re lucky. There are no more rules saying what you can and can’t do. Of course, even if they were, you probably would have ignored them anyway. You’ve put up with enough already.
