The very definition of alternative-indie hairstyles is that they are striking, wild, and they turn heads. You have probably seen many of the punk bands like Green Day and singers like Pink sporting very outrageous hair styles. These styles are fantastic for making a bold statement (and possibly scaring your parents)!

Make a statement of personality! Artists of all kinds are the champions of this style, but it doesn’t have to be limited to these characters. And if you are looking for good hair days all the time, this is a great option because anything goes! Many musicians, artists, and sports celebrities are rocking this style because it allows them to show off their personality in a dramatic and personal way.

Change colors! If you like red – go bright red! If the next day you like yellow – don’t worry about it, just change it! Gwen Stefani was always able to use multiple colors in her hair and make it look good, so don’t confine yourself to one color either! Highlights are a genius way to go if you are looking for just a little shock of color in your hair. Sometimes just the bangs can be highlighted like Rogue on the X-men. No matter how you like it, your hair can express your mood or inner self.

Change the shape! The fringe (or “bangs”) haircut is very popular in high fashion this winter, and you can use it in your alternative haircut too! A traditional haircut in a color that is different and new can be just as effective as a Mohawk or large spikes for expressing yourself – and then you can get away with your style at work too. There are many curly hair and straight hair alternative hairstyles that will fit any face shape. And you can look cute or shocking depending on your whim and maybe depending on the events you plan to attend.

Have a thick skin! Whenever you choose to go a little out of the mainstream, there will be hecklers and stares. Just remember to have fun with it! Trust me. Many of those point-and-laugh people out there just wish they had the guts to make bold statements with their haircut styles as well. And if you keep it together, they will see you for who you are in the end.
