Picking a Hair Color

Picking a Hair Color

Coloring your hair can be a big moment—however, you don’t want to end up with fake looking hair that makes you look washed out or too tan or whatever undesirable affect that you are trying to avoid. The point is, you need to find a shade that will work for you.

First of all, you don’t have to follow the three shades below your natural hair color rule—but it certainly helps! You can go a little bit darker or lighter, but you need to keep a few things in mind.

Secondly, look at your skin tone. Do you have a tan or pale complexion? A bluish skin tone or a more yellowish or warm skin tone? Keep these things in mind as you choose your hair color. For example, if you want to go red or blonde, it may not look quite as natural if you’re as tan as a beach bum. This isn’t saying that you can’t choose a blonde shade, but you may want something with warmer tones or with bluer tones if you’re pale.

Thirdly, look at your natural shade. Let’s face it—there’s nothing cute about roots. They’re, in all honesty, kind of weird, and don’t look quite right. Your best bet is to choose something that is closer to your natural skin tone so that your roots don’t show up quite as badly before you have the time to touch it up.

Lastly, have fun with your hair color options. Even by following these tips, you still have a plethora of colors and shades that you can choose from.

Why Going to a Salon is Your Best Option

Why Going to a Salon is Your Best Option

Let’s face it—all of the trendiest haircuts start in a salon. But the hardest thing for anyone to remember is why exactly they should go there as opposed to having a DIY hair party in your bathroom. Here are a few reasons:

1. Fried hair is not trendy. Let’s face it—we’ve all seen that self-dyer who made the mistake of using too much bleach or dyed their hair one time too many or just somehow screwed up their hair to the point that they have brillo pad head. It’s not very attractive and could have been avoided just by going to the salon.

A stylist knows how much product to use at any given time. This means that your hair won’t be as badly damaged and you will, just in general, have healthier hair. Not to mention that their dyes, while effective, aren’t nearly as harsh.

2. Bad haircut. If you give yourself a bad haircut, you get laughed at. If a stylist gives you a bad haircut, well, you know not to go there again and you probably won’t have to worry about how much it will cost you because you normally end up with a refund.

Most salons will give you a refund. True, you still have to deal with the haircut for a while, but getting your money back is usually a bit of a comfort in that case.

3. The experience. Let’s face it, sometimes we need to be pampered a little bit and while cutting your hair gives you a sense of liberation, sitting back and letting someone else do so gives you a little bit of time to relax and enjoy the experience.

Bobs Are the It Hairstyles for the Winter 2011

Bobs Are the It Hairstyles for the Winter 2011

Just as purses and other hot trends have It bags or shoes so do hairstyles and the bob hairstyle is very popular today among celebrities such as Katie Holmes. One of the reasons this is such a popular cut is that it is a very versatile hairstyle. You can part it in different ways or add a decorative barrette to attract attention. Katie Holmes generally has hers cut between shoulder length and the chin with subtle layering to give it some height and volume. Then it is slightly shorter in the back. This hairstyle doesn’t frame the face so the face does not look fuller instead it looks slimmer and it is a good hairstyle for an oval face also.

When you get a bob hairstyle you are not getting it cut so short you really don’t have a lot of options for it. But with the bob hairstyle you can go various lengths. You can also add some curl to it if you feel like it. Or keep it straight and shiny so it swings when you walk. A good haircut from your stylist will keep it looking good until your next trim appointment. If you want to vary the bob cut you can have your stylist layer it so it has a feathery look to it. Of course you can add hair extensions so it appears longer if you want to look different for an evening. The bob can also have the ends flipped up and the hair tousled for a different look.
